The link-in-bio funnel: how to turn social media followers into paying subscribers

A step-by-step funnel for creators: from Instagram, TikTok and X to your link-in-bio page to a paid subscription. Hooks, landing pages, offers and the metrics to track.

Followers are attention. Subscribers are income. The space between them is your funnel – the path a stranger takes from seeing one of your posts to paying you every month. Most creators lose people at every step without noticing.

This guide breaks the funnel into five stages, shows where people drop off, and how to fix each one.

The five stages of a creator funnel

  1. Reach – someone sees your post on Instagram, TikTok, X or Reddit.
  2. Interest – they visit your profile.
  3. Click – they tap the link in your bio.
  4. Landing – they arrive on your link page or creator profile.
  5. Conversion – they follow, subscribe or buy.

Each step loses people. That's normal. The goal isn't to stop all losses; it's to fix the leakiest step first, because improving that step lifts everything after it.

Stage 1–2: from post to profile

Your public content has one job: make people curious enough to check your profile. Two things matter most.

A clear hook in the first second. On short video, people decide almost instantly whether to keep watching. Open with movement, a face, a question or a surprise – not a logo or a slow pan.

A recognisable niche. "Cosplay, Berlin nightlife and behind-the-scenes" is easier to remember – and to follow – than "a bit of everything". You can be multi-faceted, but your profile should tell a stranger what they'll get in three seconds.

Tip: Pin your three best-performing posts to the top of your profile. New visitors judge you on what they see first.

Stage 3: the click

Your bio has to answer three questions: Who are you? What do you make? Where do I get more?

A simple structure that works:

  • Line 1: who you are and your niche ("Berlin-based alt model · cosplay & latex")
  • Line 2: a reason to click ("Daily behind-the-scenes + live every Thursday")
  • Line 3: a soft call to action ("More 👇")

Instagram and TikTok are strict about links that lead to adult content. Linking directly to a fan platform from your bio can limit your reach or put your account at risk. A neutral link-in-bio page that collects all your links is the common, safer approach – and it lets you add other things too: your other socials, a shop, your newsletter. Always check the current community guidelines of each platform you post on; they change often.

Stage 4: the landing

This is where most creators lose the most people – and where small changes have big effects.

  • Put your main offer first. The first button on your link page should be the one that earns you the most. Don't bury it under five other links.
  • Fewer choices, more clicks. Three to five links is plenty. Every extra link dilutes attention.
  • Match the promise. If your bio says "live every Thursday", the landing page should mention it too.

On SHEDANX, your creator profile does a lot of the landing work for you: feed, VIP gallery, shop and live dates in one place, so a new visitor immediately sees everything you offer.

Stage 5: the conversion

People rarely subscribe to someone they've just met. Give them a low-commitment first step:

  • Follow for free. On SHEDANX, fans can follow you without paying – and then see your public posts in their feed. Every follower is someone you can reach again.
  • A free welcome message. A personal hello when someone follows builds trust. On SHEDANX you can send it as a free message with an optional paid unlock attached.
  • A clear subscription price. Make it obvious what members get: how often you post, what kind of content, and any extras like members-only live streams.
  • One-off offers for the undecided. Some people prefer a single VIP set to a monthly commitment. That's still a customer – and often a future subscriber.

Price for the long term

A slightly lower subscription price that people keep for months usually beats a high price that people cancel after one. Read our full guide on how to price subscriptions, PPV and VIP sets for a framework.

Don't depend on one platform

The biggest risk to a creator funnel isn't a bad post – it's losing an account. Spread your reach across several platforms, keep backups of your content, and build an audience you can reach directly.

This is one of the reasons we built the For You feed into SHEDANX: fans discover creators inside the platform, so not all of your growth depends on outside social media.

The numbers to watch

You don't need complicated analytics. Track four numbers once a week:

Metric What it tells you
Profile visits per post Is your public content making people curious?
Link clicks per profile visit Is your bio convincing?
New followers per link click Is your landing page working?
New subscribers per new follower Is your offer and price right?

Find the lowest number relative to last month and work on that step.

Frequently asked questions

Should I put my fan page link directly in my Instagram bio?

It's risky. Instagram and TikTok restrict links to adult content, and direct links can reduce reach or lead to account action. Most creators use a neutral link-in-bio page instead and follow each platform's current guidelines.

How many links should a link-in-bio page have?

Three to five. Put your highest-earning offer first and remove anything nobody clicks.

What converts followers into subscribers best?

A free first step (following, a welcome message), a clear description of what subscribers get, and a fair price. People need to trust you before they pay monthly.

How does SHEDANX help with conversion?

Your SHEDANX profile shows your feed, VIP gallery, shop and live dates in one place, fans can follow for free before subscribing, and the For You feed brings in new people from inside the platform.
